Hunting without a suppressor.......... ear plugs or cop the lot?

A question for those of you who hunt without a suppressor. Do you just shoot and let your ears have it or do you have ear protection of some sort?

Unsure if I want to add the extra weight......

Any tips or tricks on the matter would be appreciated.

Depends on what you are doing.
If I have time to range and dial then in go the ear plugs.
I it's a snap shot in the bush then probably not.
    Don't own a suppressor.

Use protection whenever practicle to IE the range or any hunting shot where you have the time to put it on/in.

So as above no not in the bush.

Haha, as women's voices are normally higher pitched, it makes sense to me that you don't hear her.

iv gone deaf from years of shooting without hearing protection and im not even old yet. a pair of earplugs only weigh a few grams. i wish i had used them in the past. one shot every now and then wont hurt but not using them shot after shot will do alot of damage.

Can't understand anyone who would shoot without hearing protection - it's just plain common sense.

    Go hunting more

I never wear hearing protection in the bush or in the mai mai. My best sense is hearing. Foot steps, wings whistling, brush moving and water splashing to tell me somethings around. Doubt you'd hear slight noises like that with muffs or plugs on.

Maybe electric ear muffs? Never used them probably wont start anytime soon. I do wear hearing protection if possible though, say a mate is shooting on the farm or something I stand back and block my ears

@Toby buy some electronic ear muffs for in the maimai. They are awesome. I have a pair of leight(?) and they are amazing. No loss of hearing and the cut out the sound of the shot.
When I use to do a lot of goat shooting in the bush we use to have an ear plug in our left ear. Felt a bit funny but definetly saved the hearing. Deer stalking I don't use ear protection unless I am taking a long range shot and have time to put ear plugs in.
