Thread: Hutiwai Conservation Area

Hi team,

Been checking out the Hutiwai conservation area on map and there are a few promising looking spots for goats, maybe even pigs.
Does anyone have much experience in that area?
In particular I'm quite keen to know what the stream levels are like at Mangatoa Stream and Mangatawa Stream catchments. Are there any points that can be easily crossed on foot?

Any other general advice would also be hugely appreciated.

Flew in there with Matt Newton about 10 years ago.
There’s a few pigs about. Feisty little buggers.
60 pound boar we caught had 4” tusks and knew how to use them!
Place was lousy with goats.
All thick bush. No clearings.

Great for Pigs and goats, spent many years chasing pigs in there.... place is full of 1080 at present, only dropped about a month ago at most....
