My understanding of it, ( could be wrong ) is that you can use them to effectively locate game on DOC land during the hours of darkness, but must still wait until daylight to shoot one.

Very effective, I would say more than 50% of deer in the UK are shot after being spotted via thermal in daylight hours.

Not long before the Scottish Government approves night shooting with thermal scopes under license.

If Red deer were not a native species here the government would have already gone down the 1080 and heli gunner route.

They want densities of 2-3 deer per square KM and no more, even if a grid square is in the middle of a lake!

No public hunting allowed on National Nature Reserves etc... all contacted out.

Just renewed my permit and read the conditions....quite clearly prohibited.

Wonder how many thousands of dollars he got from sales after that

Much the same as using rimfire then on DOC land. Says no, but you can apply, obtain and use them.

This I do know, and have rung up about it. Just fill in your details at the DOC office stating what rifle, vehicle and firearms license along with the usual and you’re good to go.
