    I'm an idiot.

went out in the weekend to give my rifle a check over, I'd taken a tumble with it last time I was out and wanted to make sure everything was ok before I head out next weeked.

set myself up, took a couple of shots and sure enough it was out a little, about 5cm left of the bull at 250m.

so I hit my calculator, worked out it was about three clicks on the windage. makes sense, so I clicked it three to the left to bring the crosshairs into line, took another set of shots.
these were also out to the left.
obviously a screw had come loose, so I checked the torque on them all. no problems.

so I gave it another couple of clicks to the left, just in case my math was wrong, then another three shots.

these were well out, worse than before.

cue me scratching my head wondering if the barrel was getting hot, maybe the supressor...

then I remembered that the dial moves the point of impact, not the crosshair in the indicated direction. I reckon I sat there for a good five minutes just in awe of my own stupidity, I've been sighting in rifles more than a decade now, none of this is new to me. just a complete goddamn brainfart.

please share some dumbass moments so I feel a little less special. I only 31, I can't be going senile this early..

you wait till you have one scope that does point of aim and all the others are point of impact....and its half inch not quarter inch too...just for good measure...oh and the scope cap n dial is on left and top not right and top...that old redfield bearcub 2 3/4 power was a great scope but man it did my head in on paper....
    leave suppressor at home...
    leave boots at home

Tried to "zoom in" on a photo in a magazine the other day with my fingers..... Getting too used to this digital stuff I think.

First hunt with the 17hmr, left the mags at home. Had to single shot it, but loading those little 17hmr rounds with fat fingers is not as easy as you might think.

Forgetting my suppressor. I had one shootable opportunity on the whole trip and I turned to check my mate had hearing protection before taking the shot... whichever target for which had meanwhile disappeared.

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

Well old age is a bugger, I got a phone call to night shoot some hares that were eating some newly planted shrubs. Happy to accept, but couldn’t hit a bloody thing.
Got back to the hay barn and dispatched 3 possums, literally by nearly putting the barrel against their head, but being careful not to put holes in the iron.
Really pissed, then remembered I’d swapped scopes and not only re sighted the rifle, but had only nipped the mounts.
That was a couple of years ago, now I make notes on my phone

I scoped myself really badly once, but haven't we all?!

Forgotten important hunting gear MANY times on trips. Worst was getting to an isolated spot late one night after a long drive and realising I'd forgotten to bring any Ammo!

And don't even get me started on locking my keys in car at the road-end!

    Yep, so I'm pretty dumb.

I've only ever done any of that stuff when there's witnesses.
    Never when I'm alone (haha).

    Greetings Fellow Old Farts,
I have never been good at remembering names but recently it has got worse. I frequently am trying to remember someone's name, I can see their face and almost remember when the name disappears into the bushes again. Fortunately having systems for other important things like handloading so it will keep me out of a dementia home for a bit yet.
Regards Gim, Gran, oh bugger it.

Yep, you can pick their face, but not their nose.
