As for safety, identifing yr target at 300yds.In low light man dressed in brownish greenish camo standing on the edge the bush and a deer standing on the edge of the bush in low ligth.A thermal hand held will bet a good set binos hands down for identifing both targets in last light.
More people have been shot out hunting in broad bloody day light than at night.Maybe hunters should be using binos and thermals hand helds more to identifing their targets better in the day time.
As for thermals,no different to recreational fishing boats using fish finders looking for their fish deep down in the lakes, just legal.
