    Just been hunting in Santoft

Hi everyone, I've just come back from walking over Santoft looking for sambar. I've done a heap of miles and am quite sore, (not used to it). I was given block 2 to hunt on, which is nearer to the north end. I walked tracks/roads, thick forest, streams, and bordering farmland. I started at about 6:00am and had a plan and stuck to it. I'm quite dissapointed because apart from the motorbikes, buggies, and people with dogs around the place...I didnt see one deer. Not even signs of deer. No fresh prints or shit, no damage to trees. So im just wondering if anyone else has been into santoft and how you went. Where were you and what did you see or shoot?
I know these sambar are sneaky but not even a sign makes me think theyre not there?
Oh, forgot, I did see one small tree that was a little stripped at the very northern point of my block 2. It looked quite old though.
Any advice or info would be a great help.

I had a block in the wood hill forest for fallow. The bloody motorbikes roaring thru my block did my head in.

i went into that block last year, ended up seeing 1 hind in the northern end of the block in the late afternoon after chaseing fresh sign all day. and for those bloody bastards motorbikes they shot my fecking deer not far from where i was onto good sign. bastards.

still tho id go back to try them again, blackberry and head high unpruned pines are good fun to hunt in.....not.

Hi all. Thanks for the input. So im trying to decide what block to apply for next. I will ask local truckies but Im thinking block 1 (fully north, new trees and close to the minimal signs I saw. But also close to turakina beach settlement, meaning more people and bikes etc.
Or next choice would be fully south, block 6, close to tangimoana. Have been told deer are there??/
    What you all think?
