Heading down south next couple weeks, and got a bit of time to kill in Kaikoura on the way down so thinking of trying our luck on a chammy. Any particular areas worth more of a look than others? Any ideas much appreciated Cheers

nelson lakes high country would be my choice seaward Kaikoura's might be snowed up
Agree with the above, chamois numbers in Kaikoura are not high and pretty scattered, better access and numbers in Nelson Lakes.
They are present though, try Patutu or Mt Fyfe for a day walk. A hut also on Mt Fyfe. Awatere valley has chamois as well if your staying that side of the range.
George and McLean streams in Kaikoura is worth a look and take plenty of ammo for goats too.
George and McLean access is not so good after the bridge got taken out in the earthquakes. Need a reasonable 4wd and good weather for the access. New bridge going in soon (next few years) apparently.
Cheers team will have a crack
Im in rotherham about 50ish kms south of where your looking in kaikoura just had a dumping of snow when you looking at heading out @JaydenMcN?

Three inches of snow in Hanmer and about 30cm in Lyford I hear, was up at the Kaikouras on Friday/Saturday plenty of goats and a few fallow around up there.
@tonyd and I were pretty surprised to see 3 Chamois just out of Kaikoura yesterday at an altitude of about 150m above sea level.
Haha yep, ya couldnt get any handier, and we let them go!!
