Never gone in the kaimais just be in the right spot
No stags in the Kaimais just heaps of people.

April this year. Was pretty quiet though. Didnt hear any roaring, but got me my first.
Was in there heaps and never heard a thing this year.
They roared for a couple of days then shut up.
I haven't hunted there, but it'll be like anywhere else with a good population.
The stags will be active while hinds are cycling, it is as simple as that. If there is a hind cycling the stags will be making some sort of noise.
This is typically from mid March thru to end of April, peaking normally at the start of April. Exact timing of the roar is hard to pin point, but generally they roar about the same time each year.
Just because they aren't roaring doesn't mean they aren't active. Hunting pressure will cause them to quieten down a bit and they'll most likely be roaring better during the night.
I doubt the stags only roared for a couple of days, unless you were hunting them every single day for a 6-8 week period, how would you know? I hear this from hunters all the time, "the roars finished, they roared early etc".
A prime example of 'out of the norm' roaring, I saw a young 12 point stag holding four hinds on Thursday (14th May), and he was roaring hard. I snuck to within 300m of him and tried videoing him but in the rain and fog it was a waste of time.
Lady that works for me lives amongst the wild deer in the Kaimais. She has heard just about nothing this season and is there everyday. She noticed that there was heaps of hinds running around being chased by the stags so yes just because you don't hear it doesn't mean they aint doing it :) I wonder if an abundance of cycling hinds means they don't need to compete quite so hard?Quote:

Its pressure. .. roar and you get shot.... breeds non roaring stags.

high pressure areas don't roar much if at all, that is not to say they wont sneak in for a look at a imitated roar.... be on guard especially down wind of your position as this is where the will come into.
Thats how i got my stag on the 5th of April. I was roaring and nothing, heard nothing, then I let out one last roar, and bingo.Quote:
