    Kaimai's Thompsons Track

Just a heads up for those heading in for a hunt...the logging crew are back working above the track but below the Hundred Acres...they have not put any signage up as yet but you will need to be through and clear well before day break and come out late in the day...of course there will always be the turkeys that dodge the felling crew.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

Has the track been repaired well enough for quad access yet?

No work has been done on the track as yet and the word is that it wont be started till mid December at the earliest...because there has been no vehicle access since Easter, the deer have been in cruise mode and the hunters prepared to walk in (1 hour) have been creaming it.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I used to live in matamata but wasn't infected by the hunting sickness at that stage. I went up Thompson's once in my mates 4x4 but can't remember how long it took. Does it only take an hour to walk to the top?

It is seven kilometres from the road end at Thompsons (Waikato side) to the summit...around six kilometres to the crossroads and then 15 minutes to the Hundred Acres.
