Anyone had any luck up the kaimais lately?? Also can anyone point me in the right direction in looking for some goats to knock over up there?
Cheers Ben.

If you search this forum you will come across reports of goats in the vicinity if Waitawheta Hut. That was a few months back.
Only seen funny looking tall goats in there, not too sure what they are but some come home with me now and then...
In the past there have been a couple of goats up the waiorongomai valley behind te aroha. Look up by the kauri grove or under the big rock. Be sure to treat the many day walkers courteously and present a good freindly responsible image of hunters.
Overall there arent that many goats in the kaimais but every one you shoot is a good one.
Last time i was up there mid sept there wasnt much spring growth on the plateau and i had to go winter bush hunting mode. About 3/4 height on north facing sheltred areas. There might be some growth on the grass clearings in the flat swamp areas by now. Looking forward to your report after this weekend.

Hey Mellowski what area are you heading in from and to?

Thinking of heading in from hot springs or wharawhara Rd and having a look at the te rereatukahia hut area as have never looked up there. Or might just go from Whakamarama car park and walk over to te tuhi. Un decided yet
Couple of Saturdays back I was getting fuel in Katikati and a guy pulled in with a mud-bucket on wheels - might have been a Hilux (under the mud) - he said he had just come across Thompsons Track - west to east
I asked him if he saw anything and he said a couple of pigs ran across the track up near the top
In my recent report in The Magazine - we saw some guys between Upland Rd and Thompsons Track - they went up to a hut on the top near Thompsons Track (a long walk) - I spoke with them a couple of days later - they got caught out in a heavy rain event so only got a couple of hours hunting on the Sunday and had to come out via the west side of Thompsons Track on the Monday - they said they saw a deer up near the hut
Hope that helps - good luck
Only been in from Hamilton side through Thompsons, Wairere Falls and of SH (that's an arse buster of a climb!)
Bit of a long walk for not as much sign as I would like but have run in to a few animals. Certainly have my plan for early next year.
Goats a bit easier to find a little further south I would say but then again coming from Tauranga it might be a pitch too far.

Ok grass is growing at the level if the top of wairere falls. But not highrr up. Time to get into it lads
