    Kaimais/Wairere Falls tonight....

Situation: Baby on the way in 7 weeks... reno/diy project on the go as well = Not a lot of time for hunting.

I have the chance for a quick overnight hunt in the Kaimais. Heading there this afternoon. I was think of poking around the Wairere falls area/plateau. Thoughts?

Any one got any pointers or advice on where else to go for a quick overnighter, I would appreciate it. Wont have many hunting opportunities after this for a while so I'm hoping for success!
Wish me luck and if anyone wants to share some local knowledge I'm always ears. Cheers.

Iv done heaps of KMs up there, haven’t had much success though haha.
Tuahu track is pretty easy going, plenty of sign when you get up near the hut towards the lake. Have seen quiet a few up that way and always seem to spook something on the way up.
Hubby reckons up past wairere falls is better, if I remember correctly heading north from the top of wairere but it gets quiet busy with other hunters and trampers.

Easy walk if you are fit. Heaps of trampers but head in off the track and find some nice bush and it's all good. Go for it reckon theres only one way to find out for yourself

I can't speak for @TheBearNZ ; but shot up with for a day trip behind the falls on Sat. First time hunting in the area (and first time since switching from rifle to bow) so it was mostly a recce for future trips but found some great spots with plenty of sign for checking out next time. Had my two boys who struggled to keep the noise down so suffice to say anything that was there; wasn't sticking around by the time we came through. Good mahi on their part getting up the falls though. Takes some skill to move through quietly, but looking forward to another crack at it this weekend.

Well done, Whats that, about an 8 pointer.
Is it the Camera angle or are those antlers quite short and stunted.
(Probably inherited as anything in Kaimais with a decent head would not be able to move around)

Trophy is in the "eye of the beholder" you'll treasure him forever. Was he one of the stags from your mates deer farm that were "liberated" last year to give the Kaimai progeny a lift.

Notice I cut the ears off @tetawa. Nearly broke me packing him out, you're not going to make me carry your deer to far are you?

@tetawa They were liberated? Wow! I heard they escaped! Clawed their way under a fence, apparently. Or was that a different mob? Bloody rumors.
Used to be a fine wine - now I'm vinegar.
