Should have looked at the map again before opening my yap.

After rereading the letter, and talking with someone else fairly deeply involved in this I realise that I interpreted it incorrectly.
The 7B and 7c blocks are separate to the road easement. The Hon Mr Little is dodging the question, and answering with information I didn't request - the detail about the ownership of the land on either side. I'd hesitate to call a former Minister of Justice a liar, but his letter is at odds with the information the offices of the Crown charged with holding all agree on - that the land commonly called Waipakahi Rd is Crown land.
Nah, I don't think he dodged the question.
The letter refers to Part Rangipo North 7C, which is the land most of the road is on, and is totally separate from the block called Rangipo North 7C. The name is a bit misleading, because Part 7C is not part of 7C.
He's basically saying the land the road is on (Part 7C) is currently Crown land but is to be given to the Lake Rotoaira Forest Trust in the near future, and he can't (or won't) change that.

Before I read all 41 pages, can anyone tell me if the gate on Waipakihi road is open or closed please.
@stumpys is the road gate still open do you know?
Rangipo open as of Sunday, conc blocks got anti poison tagging.
No sorry i have moved on from having my nuts regularly soaked in cold water so drive pass.;)
Gates opened end of road washed out thou
Just had a look at Waipakahi road managed to get to river but thats all .A little deep to cross ,your going to need have a high truck to get over it dry .
Then if its up river, your better off taking 2 trucks as there is plenty of new rocks on the surface now
That also part of the reason for this current drama. Park and bloody walk/hunt up the valley - no need to drive further in than necessary.
Hi all.
Is there anybody that would be interested in taking a helisika block of my hands for this year? It's called haumingi and the dates are from the 10th-17th April. We have had a few things pop up this year unfortunately so are unable to go. Please txt me or call 0211467527. Pricing and info about block is on helisika website. Works out to around $5730 for 4 people.
We have done pretty well out of this block for the last few years.
Have you asked Helisika if they have a party in waiting for a cancellation.
Good to hear Waipakihi is still open for business. Does anyone know what the current decision is for the future? are the iwi intending to close it off eventually?
Fuck that sounds like thievery to me . Just flew in with 6 of us into fiordiland 2 trips in a squirrel and shit loads of gear boat and all the fishing diving gear aswell and probably a longer flight for $5910 I refuse to fly with helisika .

Haven’t heard anything about the future.
If you’re going through the gates have a look at the concrete block once you’ve gone through them. Someones tried to make sure they can’t be closed :D
I suspect they have.
I got an email from them just a few weeks back offering roar blocks in April.
I’ve not used them much, but pretty sure it was near impossible to get a block in April unless you booked months out.
Just had a look at the NZ Gazette to see whether any land transfer has happened recently.
This is the parcel we're interested in:
3959867
(Te Herenga a nuku web map today)

Here are the details about it:
Note that although it is called "Part Rangipo Block 7C" the owners are not specified. They are named for the parcels on either side of this 25m wide strip that coincides with the map label "Waipakihi Road".

Next, I searched the NZ Gazette site for Find A Notice https://gazette.govt.nz/find-a-notice/ using a few key words:
Rangipo, Waipakihi, 3959867. No results found. This page goes back to 1993.
I searched for Land Notices from 1 Jan 2023 to 27 May 2023. 248 notices found.
I'm not an expert in this and would be interested if someone could do a more professional search.
Most of the notices were about creating or stopping legal roads. Note that Waipakihi Road is not a legal road, just a long strip of crown land, 25m wide and of 12.8379 hA.
Examples of land transfers which I did find were:
Land given to a Moriori trust on the Chatham Islands: https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2023-ln1454
Land acquired for "rifle range purposes": https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2023-ln390
Another place there could be a record of current ownership is Landonline but for some reason this is currently offline: https://www.linz.govt.nz/products-services/landonline
So, again I'm not an expert, but I couldn't find any sign that the Waipakihi Road has actually been transferred out of public ownership yet.
Noticed the road sign has been removed just says no exit when driving past today
The sign is regularly stolen - its absense doesn't mean much.
This here has had a update yesterday, dont know what the change is. https://www.herengaanuku.govt.nz/our...ipakihi-roads/
So the land for the roads was taken under the public works act for the purpose of building the power scheme, and now it’s being returned to its rightful owners.
Fair enough.
But…..
The roads need to be removed from the land and the land returned to its original state.
A good compromise though, would be to leave the roads there, but allow public to use them, and have their maintenance funded via taxpayer.
Honestly, this pc bullshit has to stop.
Not sure what others have garnered from this, I read it as waipakahi will be closed as a private access road unless they (hapu) want to keep it open.
It could also be the same for tree trunk, although it looks like they are doing more investigation on Tree trunk and kaimanawa rds.
Some of the speak that is used indicates to me these could be close at the whim of genesis as the easement holder.
I hope that it doesn't come to that, but it looks like waipakahi is goneburgers.

The roads under the power lines have seen a bit of traffic and some clearing scrub.
Potholes had been filled with gravel and are starting to deepen up again.

But still public access by looks of it?
Unsure if already posted,

Between the 4wd and chopper activity it gets pretty noisy in that valley now.
