Years ago the farm I was working on had a problem with a Labrador from a lifestyle block that kept roaming. Was only a matter of time before it started worrying sheep.
We couldn’t catch it and it became extremely evasive.
I spent a few days hunting the bloody thing. Closest I got was when it put its head up about 20m from me. I brought rifle up to give it some lead between the eyes but too slow.
Never saw it again.
They been there at least a couple months now. I was at the Oamaru hut start of August there was lots dog sign couple km upstream from the hut. Dog trap went in the following week.
No one complains about 1080 and the misery it causes to kill deer and there is a hue and cry about some kuris killing deer. LOL.
Using batch in Heat urine around snares works in Ozzie
Deer /antelope can't run more than about 30mins at most before they fold, heart gives in
Dogs can run Hours , they also will kill for fun in packs
Would one be allowed to shoot em if seen? Ozzie u can shoot dogs on rural property / bush
I just can't, personal problem thing
Anyone heard any updates? I was in there end of last month and saw a recent sighting noted down in the Oamaru hut book. I'm guessing they're still 'at large'. I didn't see them but seemed to be more dead pheasants, and hares around than usual.
Wonder if there is any trail cam images of them.
Was posters up on the long drop at Clements mill clearing with info on them so still at large I would say..
Any updates on this?
Seems a bit strange to me that no photos have been posted anywhere?
Traps, meat, cameras would have been set way back when and nothing?

Yeah I too find weirdly quiet for how serious it could be for Whio, Sika and Kiwi in the area. Given how many sightings there are between Boyd and Oamaru I would have thought a chopper with thermals would have found them by now.
Give us some trail cam photos and a bounty for hunting the dogs I reckon.
I hear DoC have a team in there right now ( or did late last week) making an effort.
I'll make a call and see what I can find out.
Also been a crew in replacing the Kaipo swingbridge, so I guess they'll be keeping an eye out.
I hear that DoC's recent effort to sort these dogs out was unsuccessful. Suspected last location was upper North Arm. Traps are apparently still out, and no doubt Heli-Sika will remain vigilant?
Sound like a bastard. Missus booked north arm for just after Xmas to take our little girl on one of her yearly chopper hunt adventures. Not liking the sound of it now. I've been watching this play out on here wondering if I should tell her. Seems like it's crunch time.
