    Kaiwhakauka Track/Mangaparua , Wanganui

Hey lads, mate and I are looking at going for a walk here. Would be accessing it from the Whakahoro campsite end. Just tourist type stuff with a rifle at this stage. Anyone spend much time here? Any good for goat hunting?

Cool. I've always wanted to have a look in there. Surely there's a few fallow running around in there.

Place can be crawling with goats, depending on any recent control.

Lease holders of the grasslands inside the Nat park, and farmers further up the valley can be arsey about people accessing the Nat park by quad/bike. Look on WAMS, its a PUBLIC ROAD.

    Happy hunting

I see there are other bridges, but I assume you mean the bridge to nowhere @hunt08

    almost certainly LOL

if you read Philip Holdens book wild pig in NZ You will see a hut under pines in there,I was the only member of tramping party still OUTSIDE that hut when the giant old man pine that formed one corner of it decided to fall over..IVE never screamed so loud in my life for the folks to get out...2 were still inside when tree hit deck, thankfully it went in direction away from hut or wouldve cleaned them all up....

There were cullers through that way 4-5 years ago. Weren’t many around after that. They might have bounced back....

Leases of the grassland have had a heap of poaches taking deer before they get to the national park gate (private land). Also need to undestand its a running farm and the track can be a bit dodge sometime, so it is still a health and safety concern for them. It is about a 6km walk to the DOC gate. I have found like many places lease holders are good if you communicate with them. Touch base with Mel at the cafe before you head down there and things should be fairly good. I have seen plenty of goats on the way to DOC gate, not much beyond. There are still deer around beyond the DOC gate.

They had the cullers in there round July give or take a couple months they where working there way up from the bridge to nowhere but don't think they got as far as Kaiwhakauka Track this time I can't help you down the Kaiwhakauka Track end as I don't hunt that valley
