Kaweka Public land advice please

Hi Guys.
Wanting to do a trip into the Kawekas in February and just after some advice as to good alpine areas to head with reasonable animal numbers - have never been into Kawekas but looking for a new experience.
Also possibly looking to helicopter in so any advice as to helicopter operators from the Hawkes Bay side would be appreciated.

Walk in from makahu road, either past middle hill hut or makino. Doesn’t take long to get to the open tops, but passes through some reasonable bush.
Chris Crosse used to drop me or pick me up from Ballard and surrounding huts for $250, but you’d struggle to find anyone willing to do that sort of deal now.
