    Kaweka and Ruahine hunting

Hello, I’m after some local knowledge if possible! I am heading from Hamilton to Hastings tomorrow for half a days work on Wednesday, My good friend is over from Australia at the moment and he’s never been hunting, My plan so far is to take him and the rifle along for a bit of deer stalking while I’m over that side of the country (I’ve always wanted to explore the Kawekas and Ruahine’s, but I’m open to suggestions!) We’ll have some time tomorrow afternoon and first light Wednesday morning and then again Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. I’ve hunted in the Kaimanawa's before- Clements mill road of course and plenty in the central north island. A hut would be a nice luxury but I’ll be bringing a tent along too, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- feel free to PM me- I’m usually one to pick a spot off the map and just head there/ put in the KM’s but given the circumstances I’d like to make the most of the short time we have. Also happy to trade knowledge on hunting spots closer to Hamilton. Cheers!

She’s a bit wet mate. I’d look for a hut. Kawekas Makintosh or Makino should work for your time frame (if the Makahu is crossable).
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    Or hunt from Makahu hut.
Maybe Littles Clearing, if the weathers ok, and you want to camp.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
