Borrow someones 243 and you never go wrong.....otherwise take the 7mm08 incase that stag of a lifetime needs a follow up shot .
Ps 243 dont need follow up shots

Take the 300, sounds like you really enjoy the rifle.

I do! It's very handy. I use it all the time and shoot well with it. I think it would be up to the job. It has the same muzzle energy as a .223 (although the ballistics are very different). Wonder if the comments would have been more favourable if I said I was taking a .223?

Anyway, I can take good advice. What's the point of asking questions if you don't listen to the answers? I'm fairly settled on the 7mm08.

Have a mate that bush hunts almost exclusively with a 223, although he swaps it out in the roar for his 260rem or his 7x57. 223 is a qonderful cartridge that gets the job done, but for me, diameter helps

In retrospect, should have gone .308 over 7mm08. It was a heart over head thing. I like 300BLK a lot, even though it hasn't worked out as intended (it was a subsonic project), so will be keeping it. I did actually think about selling them both and getting a single shot Bergara .308 and putting a VX-5HD 2-10x42mm on top. It would cover all the my hunting, but can't be bothered to be honest!

I dont use the 300blackout.... I did however own and use a 7.62x39 mm and ran .308 pills in it.

we had similar dilemma with that Vs .223 for deer...my conclusions were.....
the .223 more accurate and I would happily take settled deer out to 200 yards
the x39mm more grunt up close,bigger projectile = bigger penertration and damage=more room for error
both were bolt action so no issue there.
loved the x39mm but was always aware of limitations and the place I normally hunt does have odd 300 yard shot on offer. the 125grn projectiles at full noise killed deer deader than a dead thing with chest shots.no argument they were effective...
I have single shot .45/70 that is slow to reload..so for the roar the other rifles would get tick,unless its pissing down and the open sight advantage swings it back up top.
use your blackout other times,feed it supers and be happy,keep the subs for finishing shots and small game.... or plinking with the kids,loads of fun.
