    Kea deterrent measures

    Hi team,

Heading to the West Coast shortly. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendation for keeping pesky kea off of tents, mainly at night. I have heard that apparently they don't like bird netting when it is staked out over a tent fly.

Any recommendations, and don't say .410 please. Heard that one enough already.

We used an extra fly but I think bird netting would be better they still landed on our fly and wrecked them.

Something that evil surely cannot taste that good.

I do love them though seriously, cheeky wee devils, but man they wreck expensive kit fast

Had one turned up at mine very recently. Must of been lost
After 3 days of him/her chewing off the insulation on the solar hot water system, I had to resort to a shot across the bows with the 22.
    Has not been back since.

Mainly worried about at night as I will pack my tent up in the morning and relocate. Had a look at bird netting just now in bunnings, but would be quite a bulky carry for a weeks walking.

they are poisonous and will give you the trots for weeks unless you curry them but its a $10,000 dollar curry chew slowly no good laugh though - seriously most birds are sacred of tapes over things --don't like wing damage- try that

The 410 used to be the deterrent of choice.
    Probably not appropriate any more.
It's hard not to like the wee buggers though

Hard case buggers alright. We were up Top Waitaha a few years back and came across a stash of all sorts of trinkets on a rock ledge that had us stumped to begin with untill we realized it was a Keas trophy collection, there was bits of string off tents, all sorts of various bits of material, a live 308 round, and a fired 222 case, a spoon etc etc. Took the live round as the new owner had made a good go at plucking the projectile out of it and thought lead probably can't be good for them.
