    killermont Lindis pass

Just noticed this open hunting area says no firearms on the access tracks. Anyone able to shed some light on this does it mean bow and spear hunting only?

If Accessing off the highway, it's all good. Just not off the easement track. There has been a long history of legal hunting on the private land around this area.

    Doc the DOC website.

    https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-re...ervation-area/

Hunters can only gain access to Lindis Conservation Area via southern access points:

Lindis Pass carpark: Access by walking along the northern ridge crest from Lindis Pass itself.
Otago side of Lindis Pass: Access via the car park provided for the Melina Ridge Track. Hunters can only carry firearms within the Lindis Conservation Area. Hunters cannot continue along Melina Ridge Track, which is an easement through private farmland.
Areas where hunting is not permitted
Hunters are not allowed to carry firearms on the other access easements: Dromedary Hill off SH8 and Avon Burn valley off Birchwood Road.

Hunting is not permitted in Lindis Pass Scenic Reserve.

Yes you can take guns on easement. It’s a long walk off broken hut road to the start of the block. The one off the state highway is much shorter but straight up. Pm me if you want more information

How are the owners of Longslip to deal with? Had an unpleasant conversation some 15 years ago on the road to Birchwood.

No idea haven't met them its all done online but from reading comments from other motorhomers they are all positive, but I'm not going to push my luck regarding hunting here. As I don't want to wreck any chances for other people.

“A 1111 hectare restricted hunting area in the Mackenzie Country. Firearms are prohibited on access tracks.”

May pay to check with landowners as I queried it with DoC Twizel the other week and they confirmed the above statement. Can only access with firearms via flying in, driving in via Oteake or permission of landowners. Happy to be wrong on it though.
