    Labour Weekend Hunt

Went out to a local spot x. Got up when wife got up for work. A bit of toast n a kapu ti and was good to go.

I’d being out to this spot the weekend before but weather was so so. Much better this time. Kitted up with pack frame, couple museli bars n headed off.

No real sign of anything until getting closer to a likely hotspot. Spotted a billy 50 odd metres away. Couldn’t get a clear shot at its head/neck as it browsing amongst the supplejack so let it amble off. With the direction it was going I thought I could intercept further around the track. I did. Snuck up a little n got in behind a tree n waited for the billy to come out of the cover a bit. It did. I fired. I missed. Said billy took off...Chalk another one to experience.

Carried on around to where there was a likely higher chance of spotting some more goats on some grass edges. Had a look from the cover , couldn’t see anything. Stepped out, looking all the time. Spotted a animal 100 metres ish away. Stepped back into the cover to do a sneak and get closer. Was in closer contact to what I’d seen earlier then off to my left another one pops it’s head n is eye balling me.

I take the bird in the hand approach. It’s all action stations. I take the shot. Bang, flop. Two more pop up, run past me n then stop wondering what’s going.
Bang, another neck shot. Reload. Fire. Miss....oops operator error. Reload. Fire, neck shot again. Three for five. Not flash but I’ll take it... I drag the black one over for a photo.

All are shot within 5-25 metres from me. Now the hard work happens. Guts out, hocks off then all gets tied to the pack frame for the carry out.

Get back to the car. I’ll need to get better at balancing the load but is way more comfortable carrying this than trying to make a pack out of the animals.

    Enjoy

    Good effort, nice write up!
I do prefer goat meat to venison, so much better curries
Or you can stay within 300 yards and keep life a lot simpler.
