    Lake Monowai mission

Planning a week-long boat based mission around Lake Monowai early November. Not familiar with the area. Is there anywhere safe to leave vehicles at or near the road end? Any other comments / suggestions?

There is a vehicle/trailer parking area that will accommodate about 6 vehicles and trailers and there is overflow parking just before the boat ramp on the right side. Unlikely to be super busy at that time and should be safe enough. I've left my vehicle there while hunting and had no issues.

Just be aware that when the control gates were installed and Lake Monowai was raised almost a 100 years ago, they powers that be did not remove the tree stumps from trees that would be flooded. It seems they left them in place, so there are submerged tree stumps around the shoreline ready to do you and your boat damage, so take care when close to shore.

A bit of a drive from my place( a hour) but I'm happy to pick you up and drop you off, store you're trailer and vehicle at my place if you want that piece of mind. Just pre arrange a pick up time and keep in touch with inreach.

There's also the Borland lodge about 10 minutes up the road. I've stayed there a few times and always found the people who run the camp very helpful. They've even let me have a shower there when I was camping around at the lake.

If you gave them a call they'd probably be happy for you to park there for the week.

Good point the guy who runs it is a real good sort. You may get charged for storage for the time you're there but could be a cheaper and easier option than my offer(which I'm still happy to offer)

We never had any issues leaving our truck at the launching ramp, if your boat is low sided at the back be a little careful at the top hut as I’ve seen a couple boats swamped by waves when the lake has cut up in passing fronts. As above, watch out for the trees
