    Lake waikaremoana

    Hey team,

I am going out camping at Lake waikaremoana and wondering if anyone can point me to the right direction to go out in the bush for hunting. Have never been there and unfamiliar with that area.

    Thanks in advance. Cheers!

I just got back from 3 days at Lake W. Beautiful bush all around. I didn't walk the gun only stretched my legs on a few of the walks. There was sign all along the tracks so honestly I would just pick a track and hunt off it.
Again, beautiful bush all over, Good luck.

I thought the area was closed to hunting over summer?

My understanding you have to be 500m of the tracks. Not sure about Waikarimoana.

It's under iwi control now, no longer a DoC National Park; the rules may have changed. I'd check first.

If you’re staying at the motor camp in Home Bay, head along the road to the old HQ, then turn right up the Aniwaniwa Rd, Follow as far as you vehicle will take you then walk. Fairly easy walk, can be boggy if wet.
If you have a boat, then anywhere under Panekiri (big bluff overlooking the lake). Obviously morning/evening.
    Good luck

Looks like it's closed 22 Dec to the end of January, and some areas closed all year.

Is it safe to park your car at the road end?
