Hey Sarvo, that would ring true because when I shot that boar the following day about 200-300 meters where I was first spooked I didn't get a clean shot and the first one was in the butt. It didn't make a sound, just took off into the bush. We followed the blood trail and found it sitting down and it kinda just glared at us and grunted, no noises like the ones I heard the night before. So maybe it wasn't the same pig.

I couldn't recall the wind direction. I think you're right though, he was probably just curious. My thinking at the time was he didn't like me shooting near his pad. I was onto my 15th or so possum in a smallish area before the encounter so I'm wondering if the gunfire was annoying him. The other thing, the bush he disappeared into had a rotting stinking sheep in there.

If it runs at you, what's the best thing to do if there are no trees around? Jump? Put a boot in its face? I was holding a heavy bolt action rifle. I held the rifle in the ready position toward the bush expecting it to run out and my arms became tired very quickly. Funny thing is, the first thing that came to my mind was... I wish I had my AR15 (which had been handed back to Police of course). I would have felt far safer with that.

been charged by sow when dogs had mob bailed...had a few face to face chance encounters with boars over the years....sometimes I was quickest on the draw and got pork...normally pig was and gapped it before I was ready...as others have said...NORMALLY they will get out of the way..but you never know when you could run into one with a tooth ache and bad mood.....not a lot different to a cattle beast.....far better to avoid potential issue....

Didn't weight it, didn't even eat it... bit of a shame. But I'm guessing 80-85kg, something like that.

Eh? @outlander WTF are you on about.

Read what I said again. If there’s still something unclear in points 1 and 2 in post #4, and then post #8, then pm me and I’ll explain. In Afrikaans if necessary.

Seems fairly genuine as far as I can tell Flyblown.
He's done an intro etc... so give him the benefit of the doubt at least to start with

Geez Paul I don't know why you either wouldn't eat it, or at least give it away for someone else to eat. Looks like quite a bit of meat

Proberly didn't know what you were, until he got wind of you and that's when he took off.

Not so sure about the squealing though??? They will make a scoffing noise at you before running however.

    Hmmm

    Shooting possums with a .223
    Knows diddly squat about pigs
    Squealing boars
    Tired arms
    Wishes he had his AR
    Didn’t take any meat
Claims to be a pest controller

I’ve added this lot together and got a negative number... sorry mate.

To be fair the jury is still out mate
Might have a bastard load of 223 left over like a bunch of us did. I sold mine to a mate with a Baikal which will take him a while to use.
The trolls might be evolving and doing an intro now

We had a bunch of people up to no good, join the forum after the Christchurch thing to stir and bait the masses. So the forum is a bit jumpy about new posters joining and talking about banned weapons and so forth.
