    Lawrence Campsite Kaweka Forest Park

    Hi all
it is many years since I visited the Lawrence campsite, and it was okay to access with a car, a bit rough but if it was dry it was okay. I now have a Mitsi triton, but only two wheel drive and wondered what the access is like now, DOC say 4WD only but they are a little risk averse I find these days. Any recent info would be much appreciated as I want to take my two boys 11 and 13 to enjoy the place.
    Many thanks in advance
    Cheers

The access road is locked due to logging

No reentry date as of yet

    Hi 7mm
Thanks for the update, no notice on DOC website which is a little slack! Is the road locked at the forest entry or some way along the access? Again thanks for the update.

    Cheers

Is the access to the Lakes and MackIntosh carparks still available?

Yes, via Castle Rock Road, if it was a long time since you were last there you might have accessed it via Kuripapongo Road which is a little closer to Taihape. Plenty of DOC signage for Castle Rock Road.

Lotsa big sika stags floating around the logging areas. Some local dudes who have permission by the forestry manager have been scoring both quantity and quality.

I have shot deer while at work but that was a long time ago. Current situation is most things are better than work, though it does pay the bills quite well atm.

The forest has always been a good feed area for the local population. It will be cold up there at the moment!

My son's work mate shot 2 nice deer just up the road on friday. 1 was looking at him as he was driving the main road. He obliged with 1 in the neck @ 25m.
