So now that the hustle and bustle of the roar is over and things have settled i decided to have a winter clements walk.
I can take the 338 fed and shoot a deer any day but decided to try something different. I loaded some ( shooternz ) 390gr soft cast in the Bergara 45/70 at subsonic with 14gr of trailboss and went forth.
The 1st day i spooked 5 but couldn't catch a break and was over the cold so stayed in bed the nxt morning. After a big feed of bacon n eggs for breakfast and a few hours sitting in the sun at the mill site i was ready again.
230pm is a late start in the winter but those cheeky deer are nearby. Frozen ground and snowy showers didn't impress me but just before dark i found a spiker in full winter grey trying to look invisible. At around 70yds i had second thoughts on sending a lead sub but let it go anyway.
The bullet slop was louder than the shot. Spiker walked 20 yds and died. No fuss, no worries. Finger size in hole and thumb sized out.
Now home by the fire ( go the all backs )
