When you use a DOC hut as base for a couple of days hunting. Do you leave your stuff in the hut, and hope its there when you return in the evening?

Thats what Most would do in South island Highcountry huts . Cant speak for North island
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
Depends where the hut is for me. If it is quick and easy to walk to I hide mine in the bush. If it is out of the way I figure the people going there are there for similar reasons to me so already have better gear then me so leave my stuff in the hut under a bunk or something and hope no fuckwits come in. So far my theory has worked for me
I've never thought not to....

Thanks for the reply guys. I plan to heli in somewhere in Te Urewera next year. Ill leave some in the hut, to keep a bunk, and the rest in the bush.
Yea all the time, so long as it’s not a 5min access one that slimy buggers can get to.
yeah never worried about leaving gear in a hut although to keep a bunk is a bit of a different matter, i know i would be a bit annoyed to sleep on floor or out side when there is just a pile of gear on a bunk , i think you can expect it moved
You want have to worry about your pack. New Zealand will be stopping foreign hunters hunting in NZ
I've met some weirdos in huts, and people in the bush who I'm pretty sure were on the run. Also had a trail cam stolen, it was at least 300m as the crow flies from a track. So I'm pretty wary now.
More meplat, more better.
always hidden it in nearby bush but left sleeping bag inside hut to show that bed was taken
I have left mine with a note advising name and returning date.
In other places we've stashed it in the bush and GPS the location
mate and i were up in the kaikoura ranges when in walked american tourist with the biggets pack i have ever seen. he even had 4 2 liter bottles of coke in it and i estimate it weighed 45-50kg. it had taken him 12 hours to reach the hut while we took 3 at a leisurely pace.
then he opens his pack and breaks out the portable dvd player etc and a dozen dvd's !!!
he had multiple cans of food but turns out didnt bring a can opener. very strange guy who started lecturing us on how hunting was evil.
