    Loner Fallow Buck.

    Hey Everyone,

Just abit of a question for the experienced Fallow hunters out there. I ran into a lone fallow buck the other week a fair way from any established herd, he was hanging out with a young Red stag. The question I ask is do you think he will rut or croak with no other Fallow in the area? Any thoughts welcome.

    Cheers.

I’ve seen this on numerous occasions, they are usually in very close proximity to rutting reds and from my observations they seem to keep out of each other’s way. Baffled as to why they do this also

Could be just hanging out, Fallow are very gregarious and like company.....if not with another they will often hang out with all manner of farmed stock.

If there is breeding age does in the area he will stay,if not he will go find some.

I have seen a few time young spikers with cows and also with goats.

I wonder if they can cross breed with reds, and if males would fight for a red hind in heat?

To my understanding they cannot x breed as different sub species all together. Cervus vs dama dama

superdiver this is true. Fallow can't x breed with any other deer unlike reds which cross with sika and wapiti.
