I agree with that, if you can place your bullet accurately for a clean kill at that range then there is no issue from that point of view.
The other aspect of ethics is that of "fair chase" as it could be deemed that past a few hundred metres the game do not view you as a threat as instinctively they are not concerned as that is too far for their natural enemies to attack from.
But then each to their own.
