Nice good one!
So what was the second one:thumbsup:
Good day out!
Well done Squire.
Nice shooting! What rifle and distance?
Looks like a savage lightweight
Dont take the title the wrong way. Stalked into the bush on a spooked spiker that morning, caught up to it at the top of a ridge and could only see the back of its head and one spike so i put the crosshair on its brow and "CLICK" bleeping misfire was my only chance at him. Continuting to think i am cursed like the previous year of hunting made my way back to the hut for lunch. Glassing the bush edges that afternoon and i spotted the yearling above in the photo from the hut 300m away so stalked in to about 80 and took a shot taking out the front shoulders. Head shot was out of mercy as i had left my knife behind being the dumbass that i am. So anyway i went for a walk later that afternoon and spooked a mob of 6 , had a shot at a young stag and went high second round misfired third shot knocked him over. Gun will be going to the smith as i dont think its hitting the primer hard enough. Couldnt ask for a better day otherwise.
most hunters have had days like that. congrates on the deer mate:thumbsup:
My Case on the left , mates on the right. Rifle is a savage lightweight hunter in 308. Attachment 56560
Now for a real bush stalked deer
Good on ya! @matto1234
Cheers
Pete
Big difference in primer contact. Hornady run some good ammo. Super performance runs best in my tikka
Nice one mate. Take the bolt apart and give it a good clean inside and oil.
Well done mate, great result, perseverance was key, good onya
good one persistance has paid off
Cheers guys! Should only get better from here :)
Well done but get that rifle checked as you don't want to miss on any hard earnt chances

Congrats on popping your cherry. It'll be all you ever think about now haha
Nice work, well done on sticking at it. I vividly remember my first - Just before Christmas last year. Been on a dry run since :oh noes:
Smith checked out the bolt and reckoned it is sweet, will be making some enquires about the ammo now
That has been swapped out for a basix trigger by previous owner
Well done young fellah.
Great work, things should get better from now on but you will still get periods of no luck. Stick with it it's the best sport on the planet.
Congratulation.
Regarding your rifle, get the headspace checked. After that The firing pin can be adjusted I believe on savages bolts.
Yep I'd get another gunsmith to have a look at that bolt!
Don't know who you use. But if he thinks it's sweet and has not solved the issue, I'd not be happy with that.
Somethings not adding up here? Your ammo did not take a swim did it?
Two miss fires I'm thinking bolt our head space.
Take it down the fireing range with the same ammo and see if it dose it again.
If so then look for another gunsmith.
Ammo has never been wet, bolt face seems to have a fair amount of brass rub/dust on it? Will clean up the bolt and have a go at the farm and see if there is any improvement
You had fully closed the bolt in the heat of the moment? if the bolt handle is sitting up even a small amount it can rob enough energy from the firing pin to cause a miss fire.
Do the missfired bullets and the fired cases from the same gun look similar on the primer dent?
Hey I had a simlar issue last year had my gun for a long time its been mint never let me down then I got a few misfires luckly at just meat animals I thought crap going by the primers fireing pin must be getting worn out (primers looked simlar to your pic) so took it into Lindsay here in gore he looked at it & said looks fine must be the ammo , sure enough I biffed the miss fire box & have fired around 60-70 rounds since 0 problems I figered the primers must have been seated a little to deep I guess easy enough to do...good luck.
No smooth , just looks like that in the photo
Hi, it looks like your firing pin is not out far enough, should be a bit deeper pin strike indent in the primers. So if you can screw out the firing pin a bit should fix the problem. Or you have a bad batch of amo, re primers, I am using up the last of my old primers and have had three miss fires at the range, give those dud ones a second go, mine went the second time, Just my take on it ,Hombrew.357.
The missfired ones do not look to have been hit as hard/deep which could be the result of not fully closing the bolt or many other things to [emoji1] Which is not very helpful but does suggest something random like shit in the bolt or action or an operational error rather than a weak spring or lack of pin protrusion which should be consistently week/shallow dents.
This of course is just guessing from a photo [emoji4]

factory ammo or handloads
How can you judge depth when the primer hasnt been pushed back? Its impossible to tell if its the same or shallower depth on the fired cases as the primer has been pushed back into the pin? The previous owner purchased the box of 50 handloads from collins and bradey in wellington they are 150sst with 45 grain of powder.
