has anyone noticed that the quickest and cheapest knife to make is a butterfly knife?
I would disagree. One of the quickest and cheapest would be one of the blade above in the middle with the thin tang, glued into a piece of deer antler with epoxy resin. With out the drying time it would take probably under 1hour to make.

Look online for the Boker brand, they sell. The other option is to get good steels and make the knife. In my case, I have manufactured with "tronchador" blades, ... they are those long saws, which are handled by one person on each side. Excellent steel.

Blademaster have 3 different Condor knife blanks, I made my knife from one of those....
Most of what you need to make a knife, including blnks etc.
He henerally knocks popstage off due to having to pay GST, something like that. Got a metre of 1084 6mm x 50 and 700 3mm x 30 in the garage just now.

Be careful with the Ebay blades, generally pretty low quality steel however a good place to start.

I've got a few things from them incl the gas kit to make a small forge from a 9kg gas bottle
Try these guys out, seriously good value for what you get. 1084 easy to work and harden but will patena over time however they have a pretty decent range and always seem to be cheaper than getting in NZ, go figure.Quote:

Making your own knife is fun work, but costly. Money, time & efforts. If you have a big backyard and some tools and a forge then I recommend to find some wasted bearing or truck spring parts. Years back I have a knife made from bearing parts, well really sharp, can be used as shaver and even would `t need to sharpen it all the time.
