Anyone been into this helisika block over the roar period? Interested to hear how others have got on as I’ve got this block booked for 2024 sika roar. Feel free to PM. Cheers

I haven't hunted it but i have cast an envious eye over those tops a few times from afar (Te Rua tops) and it looks like prime spring / summer country, just do it i say!

Yeah mate looks nice on the maps too! Looking forward to it, giving it a whirl for a year to see how it goes over the roar. Hopefully holds a few

Did a mission into the southern end of that block in mid 1990's. On that occasion we flew to Boyd and walked in via Te Matia Stream, and camped for a few days just below the Makokomiko high point. Was early March, from memory, and we shot a couple of red stags out in the open .... was quite a novelty then to see numbers of deer out in the open in the Kaimanawas. Was nice easy travel on those long flat ridges, but the side bits were gnarly.

Pretty sure there is now a track up t the tops from the new hut down in the Mangamingi?

Was in there in march. Pretty quiet on the roaring side of things but a ton of sign about. Although all the deer were sitting in the tight stuff until 2am and gone before daylight.
If I was going in there in the roar I'd get some tucker and kit dropped off at the hut and get the machine to drop you off at the far south end of the block and spend a few days working your way back. From all account the better bush hunting is at the south end of the block. Doesn't see a lot of hunters at the far end.

I think the clarke brothers on YouTube do a summer mission in there each year. might be mistaking it for another block though. from what I remember they said the stag genetics in there weren’t too flash. lots of scrubby stags and deformities. look for a summer sika tops trip or something like that on google.

Me, the missus and kid were in mangamingi earlier this year. A hell of a lot of scrub on mako side. Should be reasonably good roar block.
Up stream has some nice ground. Even mangamingi side of stream is not easily accessed with our fly camping up there.
Saw a few animals on mako side of stream.
Alot of stags get shot in mangamingi through out the year. Like 2 or 3 to 1 stags to hinds.
I shot one stag opposite mako hut. Had an 8ptr feeding outside the hut one morning which was cool. Really strange. I'd love to have a roar trip at mangamingi.
If any of the guys holding mangamingi want to swap for otupua one year, get in touch.
