Maungaturutu hut to Te Puke hut walk time

    Hi All

Looking to take the wife for a Kaweka walk in January. Planning to do Maungaturutu to Ngawaaparua via Te Puke and Harkness over 3 nights.

The wife is fit but not hill fit, what would be a reasonable walk time from Maungaturutu to Te Puke?

Trying to determine if we flew in at about midday if we could comfortably make Te Puke by dark.

    Cheers

    Ted

    Yep, not a bad walk.
3-4 hours easy, depending on weather, fitness, and how much your carrying.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

    Good to hear, Edward.264!

Mangaturutu tends to not get visited that much...( well, that was the case back when I spent a little time between there and Makino back in the 1980's.) Good old school, authentic Kaweka hikoi.

You may have noticed the walk is all downhill, don't want to put her off on the first outing

My Wife & l did a great trip there when she first took up landscape painting, like you l did not want to scare her off future trips. Even with her then load of bulky painting gear on top of evveything else , we did it in 3 hours with plenty of stops for glassing .You will have a great trip enjoy.
