I’ve said it before but cheese cloth is only meant to stop carcasses sticking together while freezing them.

Interesting, didn’t know that. Didn’t seem to notice it but then again it wasn’t out more than 12 hours or so.

When I put meat aside in cheesecloth, some of the gaps in the cloth weave were wide enough for flies to stick in their ovipositor to lay eggs. Spotted a couple of flies today trying to do that. When i use cheesecloth I use it to separate pieces of meat so it can go in my pack without sweating, not for hanging out in the open. Here is a picture of a female fly illustrating how she can extend it a wee bit.

Yes I’ve had meat fly blown through cheese cloth. But it’s quite absorbent so if you wrap meat in cheese cloth before you put it in a plastic or canvas bag it soaks up blood

Cheese/mutton cloth works well to prevent flys contacting a whole hanging deer (skin on). If there’s anywhere the cloth is touching flesh they will get it but the shape of a deer hung up seems to work great.

The last nzhunter episode showed a good example of how hopeless mutton cloth is.

the meat safe was good BUT they made a fundamental mistake.... mate set one up same way,with bottom on ground and lost 2 deer,a rat chewed hole on bottom of bag and blowie got in and stuffed the lot before they noticed...PLEASE keep bum of bag off the ground.

What size(s) are you using? Looked at them many times but unsure what size would be most useful.

I’ve got a large one that will fit a boned out red in,and small one that can get a boned out sika in

My similar set up to @Monk with Hunter Element bags.



You can get various sized bags for the frame that just clip on. Thats just a half one there that can also be used as a big bum bag with shoulder straps without the frame. I have a 70 litre pack for it too which gives the same set up as Monk's but with a frame.

Yeah mate is comfortable as,awsome harness with carbon fibre frame and detachable bags.I’ve got three different sized bags.Not cheap but primo set up
