Thread: Mega Fail!

Up at the sister-in-laws farm with the usual assortment of hardware and get pointed at a paddock up the back that has been nicely cleared, and resown and in nicely coming along other than the huge areas that have been ploughed up by pigs. After all the time effort and money that has been thrown at it this is a disaster. Do a late afternoon/early evening recce TimeRider and see the damage, but to offenders.

The following morning I head out with Gadgette #2 before were due at the milking shed for some work. As we wander along, wind in our faces, we can see more upturned soil that looks fresh. About ten minutes in and I look up one on the wee dips and there are 6 or 7 pigs chowing down. We sneak up to within range, I put the bipod down, flick on the LED lights, get down behind the rifle and chamber a round. It looks like daylight in the scope even though it is pitch black without even the moon up. I line up on the chest, just behind the shoulder, control the breathing then squeeze off a round, magic! Hang on, ... where was that reassuring thud? I flick the head light back on to watch the pigs trot off a few meters over the spur the disappear into the forest.

Crap, crap, crap! How the hell did I miss that? Perfect conditions and I cant blame the scope for being out as the following morning Gadgette #2 nailed a rabbit at about 140m with the rifle on our next detour on the way to the milking shed.
