    Midburn Fiordland.

Hey team, keen on any information from past hunters that have been in. Party of 6. And does anyone know if the "midburn monster" is still alive?

    Cheers

I was in there back in 2010. We didn’t see any monsters.

Did you go in tertiary creek way? How bad is the main midburn gorge? And pointers appreciated

We sea-kayaked across from Te Anau downs and landed to the left of the main river then headed up the main leading ridge towards the tops. Headed past Hook peaks and then dropped down into the mid- burn. We headed back down the mid burn following the main deer trails. Luckily we caught up with the other party because they knew the route out of the gorge. We headed down into the gorge a bit and then followed a deer trail up out onto the true left side of the mid burn. Was easy travelling back down to the lake.
We didn’t head up to the head basin as the other party had gone there. From memory they had the block again the next year and shot a real old stag in the head basin.

We filmed an episode in there for The Hunters Club during the Covid affected ballot and posted it up online a few weeks afterwards during lockdown, should be easy to find on YouTube.
