    Not banned AFAIK. Pretty sure the Yugo 8x57 surplus is steel core, it punches through steel like wet tissue paper. Regular soft points and FMJ only dented it.

    If you have Yugo 8x57 rounds punching holes in steel plate then it is most likely loaded with steel core projectiles.

    I thought the Russians banned export of steel core projectiles and any ammo loaded with them sometime in the early 90's but with the break up of all the former soviet states I wouldn't be surprised if there is steel core projectiles in Mil Surplus rounds availible here in NZ.

    Shooting steel core ammo at steel plates on our range will earn you a swift kick in the pants and a not so polite request to not use it again.
