more importantly...TELL SOMEONE where you going...and when you going to be back
and even if you are sneaking off to visit the mistress for naughty weekend...for crying out loud at very least have decency to let one good trusted mate know...so if cops start ringing around to see where you would be hunting...you can be "found" quickly.

Geez, makes me look like a dick. I'm sure the story on the link has changed from what I read earlier.

Good to hear he's found. Even if he may not have been lost.

    Headlines can be misleading.

I'm guessing he was Overdue and not Missing as claimed by the news article

Some times a flat battery or patchy reception can make you more off grid than you planned for.
People in town expect instant contact unless you warn them.

    Nah, you're not.
The original article was poorly written/not clear. I couldn't quite understand whether he was missing whilst out hunting with the other dude or had gone missing whilst in transit to meet the other dude. In any case if it was the second he still got labeled as a missing hunter instead of a missing traveller. Who knows?

Looking back I probably did similar rat bag things as a teenage hunter with me not telling my parents clearly where I was going and with whom.

PLB is always a good idea too just in case of accident let alone getting lost . Never really bothered until fairly recently after some of the stories I have been hearing about lost or injured hunters/trampers. We have been hiring one for the weekend whenever we go for a long walk but is now on top of the next purchase list. A hunter locally was saved by having a PLB when he suffered a heart attack out bush. 20 mins later was in hospital.... and I'm not getting any younger either.
