    Moki track or Rerekapa track

    Gday,

Anybody have any experience with these tracks? Thinking about going for a bike and strapping my bow onto it.

Any advice on where to find a goat curry?

    Thanks

I've been to Taranaki once in my life and can tell you the area around Moki is absolutely alive with goats. Don't know about the other place.

talk to DOC Taranaki - find out where the Goat Contractors have been - Both Moki and Rerekapa were getting regularly hunted by DOC for goats - the areas that did not receive any goat culling were Tarere in south Taranaki big area and Meremere track good access and would be fine for a bike - holds good numbers of goats and the odd fallow - old Wangamomona Road - lots of country also fine for a bike but is regularly visited -but again usually good goat population -

Thanks team, Went out in the early morning rain. Biking along in some pretty heavy mud. Worst thing was that mud was its thickest and deepest under some pretty scary monstrous slips. Was shitting myself running through the mud heaving my bike through the mud as fast as possible as little rocks and stones were sliding down the slips. This was scary. Probably dumb too. Idk.

Stopped under a big Rimu and lay down for about 40 minutes while the rain got the worst out of its system. Listened to a podcast.

Continued the bike and came to the first reasonable hunting spot for goats. To my luck, the goats had just come down to feed in the open on the first show of sun.

There was a lot of open ground between me and the mob so I had to flank left through the bush to stay down/diagonaldown wind.

Crept into 12m just below a small rise that they were on.

Big billy spotted my movement but I managed to stay still, when he briefly looked away I ducked down and snuck around the rise a little. Looking back towards the mob and where I was, I still saw the Billy looking to where I had been before. Out of the corner of my eye, 7 metres to the right was a perfect cooker.

As normal with my experience I drew, psyched myself out and let down. Drew again and took the shot.

It ran directly towards me as soon as it was shot so i yelled and waved and it turned around and ran the other direction 10 meters, down into a ditch and loudly had its last few muffled bubbly breaths within 20 seconds. I thought about putting a second arrow in it but didnt really know if it needed it. What do you guys do?

I later heard its kid crying for its mum as I was butchering. Made me feel sad. I love goats.

Did a shit job butchering but got back straps and 2 back legs. I almost punctured the guts twice, you know when the guts kind of half seep out slowly because you cut the barrier? (gutless method btw)

Anyway, scary and sad and successful, muddy wet and beautiful country.

One less pest for our Ngahere and some organic meat for me and the Mrs. Curry still in the slow cooker as we speak.
