    Moose hunt - recommendation?

Morning all, I’ve got a big birthday coming up in 2026 and a moose hunt is on the bucket list. Has anyone got any recommendations for outfitters, locations, etc that may be of help? I don’t know anyone in that part of the world who hunts them so starting from fresh. Have done some googling but looking for personal recommendations!

    Cheers

Bookyourhunt.com is a good website to get in touch with outfitters and it has reviews etc.

I’ve been wanting to do kamchatka moose for awhile, they are massive but the hunt Probabaly isn’t as good as Yukon. You probably aren’t getting much change from $50k nzd all said and done in the Usa once you get the thing back and taxidermy etc

This guy in BC, Canada is offering hunts at what looks to be very reasonable prices. Not the biggest bulls in the antler department so consider that. I have no association with the outfitter but from what I read seems to have satisfied clients.
If bigger antlers are desirable get the info offered by 7mmwsm for up to date intel on where a big bull can be found.
Go and do your hunt. They're not getting cheaper.

I did a horse back moose hunt in 2015. I did a lot of research and ended up in northern BC just on the Yukon border. If you book in the Yukon your will pay considerably more. On the BC border you still get the good size moose at better prices.
I used Jake Gunsen outfitter. Link below. The reason I chose him. Small outfitter, he guides himself with one other guide, has 2500 sq miles of territory ( pushes into new areas every year). He does boat hunts floating down the river but I chose 12 day fly in with float plane to remote log cabin camp, then on horse back, fly camping from the main camp.
I have hunted all around the world and this ranks as a life time experience.
The other thing I liked about this outfitter is he vetts prospective hunters. He’s not interested in over weight Americans wanting to shoot from the cabin door.
As a kiwi this is the real deal.

@Southcity if you don’t mind me asking what did the Gunsen hunt sting you? Sounds like an awesome adventure.

    That outfit looks awesome too.
Very similar to what I did with Fire Mountain Outfitters in the same area.
I should add that I wasn't the hunter on my trip.
Just got to tag along on a couple of hunts (Moose and Caribou) with my daughters who guide for Fire Mountain. (they know Jake and his outfit and reckon he's OK too). So I got to spend three weeks sitting on a horse in postcard type scenery looking for Moose and Caribou. And watching Grizzly Bears. A life long dream which finally came true.
Hopefully going to do it again this year.

The Yukon and Alaska moose are the biggest in size, and will cost more the further North in Canada you go the greater the costs to move around, ive spent 6 year’s in the NWT, and 15 in Northern Alberta.
Expect to pay about 10 g Canadian for a reasonable ten day hunt, more much more for northern Yukon.
On the way to work this morning, seen a cow moose, with a few day old calf,
Ive only done one guided hunt and it wasn’t one i recommend, ( shit show) but i did get a small bull for the Table.
Moose are great eating so indulge, if you can.

The above recomend GGO, has an add up on Last minute hunts and fishing, so perhaps a good option.

@Southcity that is a brilliant moose, love the colours on him. Is he on your wall yet?
