    Morning hunt with winchester subs

Went with a mate for a hunt on doc land this morning.Stalked up to a spiker and at about 40 metres hit it in the shoulder with a winchester 165 grain subsonic. This ammo is very quiet and three shots touch at 50 metres so no prob with that.Recoil was so slight that i saw the impact and the projectile looked like it blew up on the surface, yes i hit it a bit low. Could see a 50 mm red hole in the scope, it staggered of about 50 metres us following. I followed it into thick scrub and could hear it gasping but as i went in to finish it off it took of and i followed it for a while as i could hear it and then i lost it.Meanwhile my mate shot a spiker in the neck and his also ran and when it stopped he hit it in the head. Not to impressed with the projectile as it seems a bit to fragile for reds. We walked out to the car and as we were driving of the neighbour played chicken with us so we had words, he accused us of poaching which we were not. Get to a nice spot up the road stopped for a cuppa and two police arrived, he called the cops on us. They got out of their car ar15, pistol and taser and asked us to stay where we were. Asked if we had guns ,yes and where were they. In the car we replied. They asked to see them so i pulled my rifle bag out and passed the bagged rifle to him and said you pull it out, he did then asked for the other. Both bolts were in our packs. They took our details looked at our licences and asked our story. At no time were either of them aggressive or confronting. Th bloke with the ar kept his finger out of the trigger guard all the time. They went to see the land owner to get his story and came back 20 min later satisfied with what we told them . Land owner had told them he heard our shots which was bull. There were other people poaching around there but my mate used to manage that farm and knows the boundaries. We left the police there and drove home. Alls well that ends well
