That's depressing!

Yeah they deficiently aren't as nimble, I have never been a enormous fan of Specialized or 29'ers and now I have both hahaha
Pitty the Yeti importers are so friggen useless :(
They work awesomly well, even though that fork is 15 years old it still works great. This sounds bad but I have never had that fork serviced & Ive only had to pump it up a couple of times.
That's sad alright Cam
Yeah, I've heard the Leftys are good but I just can't get past the look of them. I would keep thinking something had fallen off.
When I get home I'll find some photos for you. Used to Mt b for pigs and sambar quite a bit

Cogburnoutdoors.com specializes in making hunting/fishing specific "fatty"
Scotty
It just needs STD-1913 rails or KeyMod and they'd have themselves tactical model too.
@The Claw. Couldn't wait for a Trek so got this yesterday.

Nice!
Nice 1 mate! Quite like that colour scheme too. I picked up another mountain bike on Monday, for high speed hunting maybe?

Oh glory be
Whats the rrp on that Claw? can certainly see the family resemblance to my old atx there.
Horses are the best! They mask your scent, make the game less afraid of you approaching and can be used to track and haul!
You left out use shitloads of fuel used or not and make bumps where there are none.
Went "mountain" biking yesterday. Didn't see any game though. All my crashing probably scared things off.

Nice 1 mate, you enjoying the Fatboy? I'm going helibiking next weekend if the weather is good, can't wait to get up into the snow!
Yeah. Lots of fun so far. Still getting to know it's strengths and weaknesses.
You taking the Glory or fatty?
Fatty, hoping for plenty of snow where we are going. Gondolas open at Queenstown on the 4th of September so I'm counting down the days till then for the Glory
Finally got my new wheelset so could fit the Bluto to the fatboy. I'm liking both updates. Weighs 13kg all up now, 2kg lighter than as it left the bike shop
Attachment 39757
Hmmm, don't know why that picture is upside-down
Pretty much. Basically 1.5kg less compared to the factory wheelset when setup tubeless. Tubes in the factory wheels are really heavy, so if you haven't converted to tubeless I would recommend that. Also changed bar to carbons, shorter stem, lighter brakes, and much lighter cassette
Ok. Was thinking of a shorter stem as I am getting a fraction of understeer. What length did you go to?
If any of you guys want carbon rims for your fat bikes I still have a few 26" ones sitting in the corner of my office doing nothing
Birthday pressie to yourself @The Claw?
Not quite mate. Been on the go for the last 6 months... Waiting for parts to get them finished. I haven't really got myself a pressie to be honest. Slipping!
Have a mate that decided an eMTB would be the business to get to the back of the farm he hunts on. He had a plan and was rather pleased with himself.
I ran into him about 6 months later and he was very - unusually - quiet about it. After some truth serum he fessed up to stacking it big time coming downhill with an animal on his back with carnage resulting to body, rifle and eBike. Thankfully the deer was OK as he protected the carcass with his body and rifle.
I am still disappointed there was no video evidence as I believe it would have been gold. I haven't heard any more about the eBike since then.
Having spent the last 38 years (jeeze, has it really that long?) Hauling deer out of the hills on 2 wheelers (including deer in saleable condition) I can confidently confirm that there's no 2 wheeler MTBs out there (not even considering motive power) that come close to the frame strength, handlebar strength, braking power and suspension travel of an ICE powered dirt bike. I have hit hidden holes in the tussock so hard that I have 'stoppied' with an 80kg stag across the fuel tank/handlebars with me 100kgs on board. That's gonna do some damage to any light weight MTB's.
If you want to be quiet on a bike, just travel slowly.
I intend doing a bike hunt this summer.

I've done a few trips into one spot using my MTB to knock off the first 5 k's of 4WD track and stashing the bike in the bush while walking further in. Definitely saves some time and was welcome on the way out when the legs were shagged. With a pack full of meat, I found it easier standing on the pedals most of the way out rather than sitting down. That 4WD track has a fairly steady grade though, so there was a lot of coasting.
Don't forget to increase your tyre and rear shock pressure to compensate for the additional weight. I'm keeping my eye out for a single-wheel trailer, I reckon that would be much better than trying to carry it on your back.
[QUOTE=summitdogracing;379528]There is a growing number of hunters here in the US using mountain bikes on their hunts. The lack of engine noise and the smell of petrol is allowing them to get closer to the game, mainly deer and mainly bow hunters.
Is there much use of MB in NZ for hunting? I am sure that the terrain to too rugged for their use with tahr but maybe for red deer. The use of child carriers/bike trailers have been used for hauling out the meat.
This is a a good post Scotty. I haven't thought about taking an MTB hunting before, but this has given me an idea..!
Got myself a suron last year . Use it only for hunting. It’s electric and is not as big as a dirt bike but more like a mtb. The thing is nuts , straight uphill with a full pack on . Shit it can go some places . Real impressed so far . It did 65km on a charge last time of rolling kinda country . Only makes a bit of chain noise . Now I’m a bit longer in the tooth I can get a fair way into places quickly and quietly and not be stuffed from walking in with a heavy pack . Just get straight into hunting . Attachment 229857
