Muzzle advice
Anyone here use a muzzle on there dog for hunting in 1080 areas
I have access to private property (Vic Aus) that have 1080 baits for foxes and wild dogs that has heaps of deer but at this stage can't take my hunting mate because of the poison.
If anyone has a successful muzzle I would like to hear about it

Years ago I tried a few of the wire muzzles on my kelpies and a big huntaway I had, we had to drive cattle through some dog baited country, dogs weren't keen, kept snagging in tussocks etc, but it was dirty country. The mesh was pretty open and the dogs could get small things trough the openings. While a 1080 dog bait is pretty big when fresh, liver baits can dry out pretty small in dry weather, I don't know what the new commercial baits are like, bat fox baits are smaller. One problem I had also was the huntaway getting overheated due to the muzzle, even though he could pant with it on. I would probably leave my best mate at home for 3 months or so, depending on what type of bait was used, and how dry the season was. Sorry not much help to you. Cheers Steve
