    My first deer (bloody finally)

Was at a mates station fixing up an old hunters hut and building a new room on the side over the weekend, we stopped for smoko on Sat and glassed the eastern hills for game sign and picked up four fallow hundreds of goats and the biggest pig I've ever seen was awesome to watch, they stood out in the sun like dogs balls.
shot two possums a hare and a rabbit Sat night, next day packed up at lunch time and shot a couple of goats for the pot, while gutting the goats at the Polaris a spiker fallow walked out into the open and watched us for 5 odd minutes then started to munch away contentedly.
with Dan giving me the go ahead I closed the gap to 100m and set the howa 223 on the neck took a deep breath and squeezed off a round, the deer did a big jump straight up and came down and rolled a couple of metres dead as.
Very happy very tired now and I won't be taking the grin off my face for a long time as it's taken me three years a good amount of time and money blood sweat and tears
I'm going to send the skin to Nelson for tanning.
    Good as wood

I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
