    My first Hummel?

Got this guy yesterday. Thought it was a hind and was quite surprised to see a pizzle and coloured up belly when I dragged him out of the fern. Dropping down through the scrub there was a clear staggy smell in the air.
Wish I'd taken more notice and better pics at the time....he had 2 very small bumps but definately wasnt a yearling.

    Did he have balls?
You do get the odd younger stag at this time of the year with that stage of velvet development. I shot one on Saturday.Name: D4570649-F7AF-4B8F-BF63-16846F8BFF08.jpeg

Is he big enough to be a Hummel? I thought they were larger than normal?

Yeah I'm not sure. Was only a young animal but seemed to have well developed dangly bits with no antler growth that I could see

I shot a Red 20 years ago that had no balls, and had just bumps on his head. He was a big bodied animal though.

There was no scarring or anything, just a pizzle sans accoutrements.

That's what I thought a Hummel was (no antlers or balls), but the dictionary definition (above) seems different.

    And this too. https://www.google.com/search?client...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I've only ever shot one hummel. Had balls, no sign of antlers and was huge. When I first spotted it my initial thought was that there shouldn't be any horses out here, followed by the realisation that it was a very big-bodied stag without antlers.
