How’s it going team got a call to ask if I wanted to clamber some mountains looking for tahr this weekend so on Friday we headed up to a mates place to stay a night then on Saturday we set off for hills spend the whole first day climbing big hills a mix of bad wind and no clue on a tahrs feeding activity habits I lucked out seen no animals no live ones anyway. Just 3 dead ones obviously shot by doc. I grabbed a good set of horns off one for the mantle and head back for the hut. That evening I contoured in to another big gully and had no luck I could bloody smell them though!!! On the way out I spotted a wee bambi a fellow yearling. I lined up it’s neck and just as I squeezed off it turned slightly so instead of the shot hitting it neck bone the shot literally cut it throat and hit no bone. No wastege perfect! As the next morning rolled around I clambered the hills again glassing and walking all day when I thought all was lost and I was dropping down to the hut and something caught my eye not 70m away 3 young tahr were grazing I found a steady rest grabbed a photo they had no clue I was there. I lined up a nice nanny and squeezed off thump and it rolled a good few hundred meters down I went down and skinned it and grabbed all the legs back steaks and eye fillets and head for the hut what a memorable hunt blooded my new howa it never let me down more meat for the freezer happy days!
