Question National Park - any tips for a virgin?

Hey there team, mates just bought a bach at Ohakune and has suggested a spring hunting weekend albeit none of us have hunted there

Not after anyone's glory hole just wondering if there was any general advice on the area I could build a plan from.

Feel free to PM if that is preferable

    Cheers, Gibo

Given the type of people who normally respond to your posts @Gibo, this is probably not the best title for a post
I'm sure someone will be able to assist - alas, I cannot.

Not sure if this image will work or not, but have found excellent sign at the hot spots closest to Ohakune over winter

If it doesn’t work there was a heat map of Ruapehu sent out through the DA newsletter about the areas of highest deer numbers after a thermal fly over. Shouldn’t be hard to track down

As an earlier post mentioned, the Waihohonu gives easy access to some nice hunting, both bush and open ground. When last in the area I encountered both reds and sika up on the northern face of the ridge north of the hut. There are pockets of bush east of the Oturere track when heading north that held good numbers. The Te Mako on the way in is usually full of fresh sign but is a little close to human traffic for my liking.

Gibo consult the oracle (Ross Nolan). Oh and as someone has to, a little lube your first time will make it a little less painful for you. Ha ha ha ha you can rely on me mate.
