    Nelson hunting

A good hunting mate has recently moved to Nelson for first posting as a police officer.
He's finally able to have a few days off and start checking out the local hunting.
He's well tooled up with gear, experienced, mainly a meat hunter, fit and strong, easy going and also a serious spear fisher.

Im unable to get up and spend time with him pre Christmas and only know a few spots that are fairly serious and probably not ideal for a solo trip.

Can anyone local give a little advice for a couple of 2 or 3 days hunts local.
Or pm and I will get him to contact directly.

Yeah. That's true. Seen many a deer just off popular tracks.
Lee's is a beautiful place but I think "officially" all the DOC huts in the area are closed.

Plenty of great doc land around murch. Bush or tops. Just a good mission to the tops down that way. But plenty if animals. Jump on google earth then consult the doc website or the public walking map for access.

He did get away and saw one yearling hind and heaps of goats.
Didn't get a shot away at the hind but hes happy to be out and about in a new location.

He should have driven up and joined me in Ikamatua where we saw saw a lot of deer.
Shot one huge spiker and a nice boar around 40kg killed out.
Just checking out the stag numbers for the roar.

Check pesticide summary before hunting anywhere between Nelson and North Canterbury, we came back from Motueka the other evening and I kept stopping to let my dog stretch his legs and grab a drink but everywhere we stopped had 1080 signs all the way back down and through the Lewis so the poor bugger had to wait until we got home
    Munsey and mikee like this.
