Thread: Newbie keen for a hunt in the Waikato area

Hey man and welcome ,

+1 for the NZDA on the whole a bunch of great guys who will give you the shirt off their back.

As for hunting, a .22 rimfire is not permitted on DoC land and some would argue is not an ethical larger game killing rifle. So I would suggest heading around the local farmers. Go door knocking after the morning milking and explain your situation and that you are wanting to learn. Alot of farmers do their own pest control but some may be willing to let you tag along. The worst they can say is no and then just thank them for there time and move on to the next farm and hope for better luck!

Biggest piece of advice I was told when learning to hunt is be patient and take your time!!
