Its not just Sage.....Nash just increased quotas for snapper and gurnard despite submissions being overwhelmingly in favor of not doing so.

    From the linked article:

"Sage recently reappointed board chairman Keith Morfett for a second term and replaced Buller member Coraleen White, who had served two terms, with Rotomanu farmer Katie Milne, the recently retired national president of Federated Farmers.

The appointment round followed complaints from West Coast councils and tangata whenua that the board had been "stacked' with environmentalists and did not reflect the West Coast community.

The two Ngāi Tahu representatives, Kara Edwards from Makaawhio and Veronica Baldwin from Ngāti Waewae, did not attend the board meeting last week, and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae chairman Francois Tumahai, who holds a community seat, was also absent.

The Greymouth Star understands Ngāi Tahu are unhappy with Dr Morfett's reappointment and links with Forest and Bird."

Being of Ngai Tahu heritage @Pengy, I am deeply and irreparably hurt by your insinuation that for our people money has sway over feelings. In the name of my paternal great great grandmother Mere Titope Kaikanui Pakinui I lay claim to a large (but fair) amount of cash as reparation from you. Failure to meet this claim will cause me to call upon the spirit of my ancestor to beat you up with her patu.

There is another angle to this: Govt. departments and related bodies, as a result of the 1984 Labour Government's decree that all decisions must take into account "the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi" (and it still hasn't been determined what this means!) has been interpreted by some Conservation Boards that iwi "must" be represented. The Southland Board, to it's credit, doesn't believe this: they want the best people on the Board.

AGAIN....there was more than one lot of fellas signing that treaty...it doesnt only give benefit to brown bums...although it would seem many brown bums receive benefits ....
when a government wakes up and grows a pair of balls the treaty can be honoured PROPERLY .....not the current cherry picking to suit the few over the many.

well now lets see...treaty = the scroll of paper that has all the signatures on it.......pretty obvious one would think..
as for "brown bums" well again pretty obvious...and before you get all testy and hot under the collar...Im a 27th generation KIWI with mixed heritage so calling a maori is ok but rather a blurred line when someones whos great great great nana jumped the fence and had coffee coloured baby your great great nana makes you maori...according to some.
Im not racist....human beings are a race.....Im not a colourist...that the girl down at the salon who makes nanas hair blue...Im not a tribalist either, having mixed ancestory makes that one problamatic...
this country we live in at present is spouting the need to make te reo compulsory in schools and govt wants large proportion of population to speak it......yet at same time we have large proportion of population who cant speak KIWI English language.....and thats OK..... hello folks priorities a bit stuffed up there I believe.
