    No 1 Line, Ruahines

    Hi all

Just getting into hunting the ruahines after doing the Wanganui blocks for a bit and was wondering what the area around number 1 line on the west side of the ruahines is like? don't mind putting the yards to find my own spot x but would like a general idea of the area from those who hunt it

    regards

    Matt

up the road a few minutes, opawe road, get to end, walk paddocks,(if the bastards still let you) quite a way, get to bush edge, bush on the left reasonably flat, scattered big podocarps rimus etc.. wicked supplejack beneath, but stalk-able, can be pretty open, dunno about 2015 but used to be a ton of deer sign,

other way straight up hell-steep track till it flattens out again up the top, then bush is open-ish and gets shittier as you go further in till running up to hell-leatherwood. Veer off and cut right down to valley on right of track, slips and clearings galore down there, deer own the place. hell carry out back to
    track as usual

Yep i concur, the climb is steep and theres plenty of supple jack around. Last time i was there saw a 6 point stag bolt into the bush from about half way up the climb. Plenty of sign in there plenty of supplejack too but it is part of the largest unbroken belt of the lovely stuff.

I managed to pole axe a tree that got in the way of a stag the last time I was in there during the roar. Just watch the farm owner....I've had one run in with him...
